About the Biodiesel Association of Australia

The Biodiesel Association of Australia operated as the representative voice of the Australian biodiesel industry from 2000 to July 2007.

With the advent of the Biofuels Association of Australia, the Biodiesel Association has ceased accepting memberships. We thank the industry for its support over the past years and wish you well as members of the Biofuels Association of Australia.

This website will remain available for some time as an information resource but it will no longer be updated after July 2007.

BAA's Mission

Providing Leadership as the peak industry group facilitating the building of a sustainable, credible and economically viable Australian biodiesel industry, in harmony with quality, community and environmental standards

Australia is a lucky country. It has many resources that make us independent from and competitive with the rest of the world. A paradox when you think that we are more than 50% reliant on international supply of fuels for all major industry - with a sharp decline in our self sufficiency over the next 10 years to less than 20%!

Biodiesel is a complete replacement for petroleum based Diesel. It has improved emissions and better lubricating properties than all other alternatives. In fact, France (the world's largest producer and user of biodiesel) mandates 5% of biodiesel in every litre of ultra low sulphur diesel sold.

Australia has come to the point where it is willing and economically viable to start producing and using renewable fuels. Biodiesel, which runs in diesel motors without conversion and can be distributed throughout the current fuel transport and delivery industry, has a huge potential.

BAA was founded in late 2000 to ensure that the biodiesel industry is established and flourishes in Australia.

To achieve this end, it has several charters of responsibility and functions:

With a uniting voice, the Association is leading biodiesel from a cottage industry to a standardised, viable addition to Australia’s energy resources.

Who can answer my questions about biodiesel?

The Biodiesel Association of Australia is developing a library of information on biodiesel in the US, Europe and Australia. The library will consist of source material and links to relevant information. The library is made available to members of the Association.

The BAA is also developing the Biodiesel Information Forum. Members will have both post and read access to the Biodiesel Information Forum. This will broaden the base from which you can seek both theoretical and practical information about biodiesel.

Members also have access to the "Member Locator" which enables you to access contact details for members within a self specified radius of a specific postcode. Because we respect the privacy of our members, this feature is only available to BAA members, and only includes those members who have indicated that they are prepared to be contacted by other BAA members.

This gives members access to the trials, tribulations and experiences of other members.
